Ask for the review while the customer is still happy

Most service businesses know reviews decide who gets called. Almost none ask consistently, because asking is awkward and always happens later. SmartPulse asks for you, by text, at the right moment.

What is an automatic review request?

It is a short text message sent to a customer after their job is finished, containing a direct link to leave a public review. It removes the two reasons reviews never get asked for: remembering, and the discomfort of asking face to face.

Why do reviews matter so much for service businesses?

When someone searches for a plumber or an electrician, they see a short list with star ratings before they see anything else. Rating, review count and how recent those reviews are all shape both the ranking and the click.

Is automated review collection allowed by Google?

Asking every customer for an honest review is allowed. What is not allowed is review gating — screening customers so only happy ones reach Google. SmartPulse asks everyone whose job completed normally, and never routes negative sentiment away from the public profile.

The reviews you never got

You finish the job, the customer thanks you, you drive to the next one. That was the moment. Two days later, when you remember to ask, the goodwill has cooled and the message feels like a favour request.

Meanwhile the competitor two towns over has ninety reviews and appears above you on the map, not because their work is better but because they ask every single time.

How it works

  1. A job that came through SmartPulse is marked complete.
  2. After a short delay — long enough for the customer to get home, short enough to still matter — a text goes out.
  3. The message uses your wording and includes a one-tap link to your review profile.
  4. Excluded or disputed jobs are skipped automatically; you can also exclude anyone manually.
  5. New reviews and request outcomes appear in your dashboard alongside the job they came from.

What this changes

Asking becomes the default rather than the exception, which is the only thing that reliably grows a review profile. Over months, that compounds into higher local visibility and a stronger first impression for callers who have never heard of you. It pairs directly with automatic text replies — the same conversation that captured the job asks for the review at the end of it.

Frequently asked questions

When is the review request sent?

After the job is marked complete, not after the first message. Timing is the difference between a five-star review and an irritated customer — the request goes out while the work is fresh, typically a couple of hours after completion.

Can I stop requests going to unhappy customers?

Yes. You can exclude a customer manually, and jobs flagged as disputed or reopened are skipped automatically. SmartPulse never filters people into a private feedback form to hide them from Google — that practice breaches Google's review policies.

How many reviews should I realistically expect?

Service businesses that ask every customer by text typically convert a meaningful share of completed jobs into reviews, far more than a link in an emailed invoice. The exact rate depends on your trade, but the reliable part is that asking every time beats asking sometimes.

Does this help local search rankings?

Review count, rating and recency are among the factors Google weighs for local results and the map pack. Steady reviews also change buyer behaviour before the click: a recent five-star review is often what decides which of three plumbers gets dialled.

Can I request reviews somewhere other than Google?

The link is configurable, so you can point it at any public profile your customers actually use.
